Description: This workshop is aimed at intermediate bryologists, and is for members of the BBS only.
The workshop will take place at Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve Anancaun, Kinlochewe, Achnasheen, Ross-shire IV22 2PD. We will have a study room/ lab available. You will need to supply your own microscopes although the BBS will be able to supply a limited number of high power microscopes.
Cost & accommodation: The cost per person will be £110 which does not include accommodation or food and drink.
There are 4 male and 4 female places available in hostel style dormitory accommodation which is located beside the reserve office at Kinlochewe at a cost of £10 per person per night (payable to the BBS). These will be available from 5th to the 11th October. Be aware that the bedrooms are all upstairs (no lift nor stair lift). Facilities include: drying room, washing machine, cooker, fridge-freezer, kitchen utensils, crockery, pay-phone, television. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag/bed linen, pillow and towels. An equipped kitchen is available but attendees need to provide their own food and drink. There is also camping available next to the hostel at the Field Centre.
There are also campsites at Kinlochewe and Taagan which are both about 1 mile from the office as well as rooms or houses to let in the surrounding area such as Kinlochewe or Achnasheen. Public transport is very limited. The Reserve is fairly isolated, being 1 mile from the nearest small shop in Kinlochewe and 20 miles from several shops, a bank and a pharmacy in Gairloch.
Booking: Places are limited to 15 and will be allocated on a first come first served basis; they must be paid for on confirmation in order to secure your place.
Please email Mags Crittenden at mcrittenden24@gmail.com to book, indicating whether you wish to take up one of the places in the hostel accommodation and/or need to borrow a high-power microscope. Please do not pay until you have a confirmed place on the workshop.
