Meeting report

A group of six of us met up at Pen y pass on the Baron Hill estate below Snowdon on May 21st. We all arrived using the Sherpa bus service except for Catharine Moss who toiled up to the top of the pass on her bicycle.

Two of us arrived early and spent a little time exploring on the Glyderau side of the main road around Moel Berfedd before meeting the others at the main car park. We spent about an hour examining ‘grots’ around the car park and then made our way slowly down alongside the Afon Trawsnant, until we got driven back by what Dorothy Wordsworth would have called ‘a soft, gentle rain’ but that I would call a ‘persistent mountain drizzle’! We went back up the hill for a leisurely lunch and cake in the cafe, and with an improvement in the weather set out again along the track leading towards Llyn Llydaw. Some slightly more basic rocks were found above the track but sadly bus timetables called and we were not able to explore further.

We finished the day with sixty species on the list. There is definitely more to be found.
