HomeEventsNWNFPG: Minera Quarry NWWT Nature Reserve

4 March 2023 (10:00 - 16:00)

Meeting details

Leader: Brian Burdett

Location: Minera quarry (SJ2551 and SJ2552). https://www.northwaleswildlifetrust.org.uk/nature-reserves/minera-quarry

Originally mined for its lead and later quarried for valuable limestone (until 1994), the reserve now comprises areas at different stages of re-colonisation. Woodland has established in the oldest parts of the quarry whilst bare rock still remains in the most recently worked. Elsewhere there is a mixture of calcareous grassland and bare, gravelly areas.
