In May 2024, the bryological societies of Sweden, Norway, Britain and Ireland held a webinar on liverwort heath, which is a rare community worldwide. The event aimed to shed some light on this often forgotten and sometimes neglected habitat.
Liverwort heaths are among the few habitats in the world that are dominated and truly defined by liverwort species. The disjunct distribution of both habitat and species makes it even more alluring. Within the field of conservation biology, only a small group of people have adequate expertise and knowledge of bryology to recognise the importance and uniqueness of Europeanhepatic heaths. It is very important to share experiences from the countries in which these communites occur and establish a network of contacts to enable further understanding of these communities. It is particularly important for Sweden, where they were only recently discovered and are still poorly characterised.
YouTube videos of this webinar are now available on Swedish bryology’s YouTube channel at https://m.youtube.com/channel/UC9Tf6FplCPKc6-VZRUsrwDg:
