25 February 2024 (10:30 - 16:00)

Our February meeting is in the lovely and bryologically interesting Quantock Hills, not far from Taunton.

Meeting details

Leader: Andrew Branson

This southern part of the Quantocks has some fine heathland, deep valleys with flushed areas and areas of common with veteran ash trees and scrub. Recording here has been relatively sporadic, so who knows what we might turn up?

Recent records include a good range of epiphytes, flushes with Scorpidium cossonii and Campylium stellatum, hornworts, such as Anthoceros and Phaeoceros laevis and some typical western oak wood species. There are some steep slopes and muddy areas, so please wear appropriate footwear.

Meet at the car park at Lydeard Hill at ST180338. This is accessed via a minor road east of West Bagborough. This is most easily found on a minor road leading north from Bishops Lydeard and turning left at the Park End junction.

If you’d like to come along, please email Andrew Branson (andrew@(at)3alpacas.co.uk).
