Calypogeia muelleriana

HomeLearningSpecies FinderCalypogeia muelleriana

Identification notes

C.muelleriana is frequent on moist acid substrates such as peaty banks and streamsides, especially in coniferous woodland, and in wet heath or humus rich soils in the uplands. Typical material has broadly rounded imbricate leaves that are slightly concave and the branches often grow parallel to each other which gives a characteristic appearance to the patch. The underleaves are quite shallowly divided and have no lateral lobes.

It can sometimes be tricky to separate from C.fissa, but that species usually has a narrower leaf apex, at least some leaves with a small notch, and more deeply lobed underleaves. Gemmae and oil bodies are similar to C.fissa.
