Plagiochila exigua

HomeLearningSpecies FinderPlagiochila exigua

Identification notes

P. punctata, a larger species, sometimes produces small shoots that can strongly resemble P. exigua. However, the leaves of P. exigua are always bilobed, with or without an extra tooth on the postical margin, they are all narrowed at the base, and the whole plant is usually dark, unlike the fresher green of P. punctata. Habitat can also provide helpful clues as P. exigua likes a bit of base in its substrate, unlike P. punctata. Well-grown P. exigua hangs off trees and rocks in ‘brackets’, then looking unlike the more cushion-forming P. punctata.
