BBS Centenary Photography Competition

HomeNewsBBS Centenary Photography Competition

The Photo competition is now closed for entries, but please check back to vote (available from 2nd July).

2023 will mark 100 years since the BBS was formed as a successor to the Moss Exchange Club. Amongst other activities the BBS will be marking the centenary by holding a photography competition.

The contest will be free to everyone and is designed to celebrate the wonderful world of bryology:- mosses, liverworts and hornworts. There will be four categories, bryophytes in the landscape, bryophytes under the microscope, close ups of bryophytes and bryologists in action. There will be a fifth prize for the best entry by someone under the age 18. Entries should be submitted between January 1st and June 30th 2023.

The entries will be judged online by BBS members and the winning photographs will be used to produce a Centenary calendar that will be ready for sale in time for the AGM in Edinburgh in September 2023.

It is intended that the photos should be judged for artistic merit and that the calendar should showcase some of the amazing visual diversity of the bryophyte world. It is also intended to publish some of the photographs in Field Bryology and online.
