HomeNewsCelebrating Daniel Angell Jones in Harlech

On 4th April this year a small group gathered in Harlech around the former home of school master Daniel Angell Jones (1861-1936), at 5 Bronwen Terrace.

Daniel Angell Jones was a founder member of the BBS in 1923 and its first Secretary. Mark Lawley as a representative of the BBS, and Liz Saville Jones, MP for the constituency of Dwyfor Meirionydd, unveiled a blue plaque commissioned by the Harlech library and Institute to commemorate the life of this eminent bryologist and of his contribution to botany and bryology.

Mark Lawley has undertaken extensive historical research into the history of bryology in Wales and the rest of the UK, and was asked to say a few words. As far as we know this is the first blue plaque in the country devoted to the memory of a bryologist.
